The director is responsible for academic leadership in the School in its efforts to: recruit, retain, and evaluate diverse and distinguished faculty and promote their professional development; provide high quality instructional programs and maintain accreditations; provide grant activity and maximize quality scholarship; recruit and retain students; carry out strategic planning and budget preparation and execution; work with programs’ leadership to approve and recommend curriculum and student degree programs; engage in some teaching; engage in service within the university; bolster the School’s reputation both nationally and internationally; oversee the Child Development Center; and collaborate and work with the school advisory committees in fundraising and other development activities.Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate in one of the following fields (Fashion Merchandising, Interior Design, Consumer Affairs, Nutrition, Family and Child Development) or a closely-related discipline served by Family and Consumer Sciences; have an academic record that merits appointment with tenure at the rank of associate professor or professor; minimum of ten years of college teaching experience; strong record of published research in refereed journals or comparable creative activity; experience in securing external funds; experience in administering academic programs; administrative experience in budgeting; experience in faculty mentoring/development; and experience with graduate programs. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of excellence in teaching; experience in developing academic programs; experience with doctoral and international programs; leadership in national professional organization(s); experience working with diverse students and faculty; and familiarity with all the cognate areas in Texas State University’s School of Family and Consumer Sciences.Application Procedures
