Per Diem Dietitian - Evenings

Responsibilities


The Registered Dietician organizes, supervises, and delivers the nutrition portion of the Program per guidelines and protocol. Conducts nutritional analyses or assessments, as scheduled, on each participant. Maintains and submits participant and Program nutrition data as required. Participates in various team clinical meetings. Assists with patient recruitment, and serves as a liaison with the facility dietary department and/or chef, as necessary.

Patient Care
A. CLINICAL
1. Organizes, supervises, and delivers the nutrition portion of the Program per guidelines and protocol.
2. Conducts nutritional analyses or assessments, as scheduled, on each participant
3. Identifies participants with food allergies and collaborates with foodservice about safe and appropriate meal planning.
4. Identifies and counsels participants who may need therapeutic adjustments in the eating plan.
5. Promotes optimal nutrition adherence by being available to the participants during the meals and, if able, exercise classes to answer questions and gain feedback adherence.
6. Maintains and submits participant and Program nutrition data as required.
7. Participates in weekly team clinical meetings.
8. Participates in the interdisciplinary team development of a plan of care for each participant.
9. Participates in the monitoring, documentation, and communication of the participant's response to the interdisciplinary team plan of care throughout the Program.
10. Monitors nutrition adherence for all participants and provides counseling on an individual basis as needed.
11. Performs other clinical duties as necessary.
12. Participates in team and network nutrition-related conference calls.
B. PATIENT RECRUITMENT
1. Assists the Program Director's efforts to actively market and promote the Program to prospective participants, health care professionals, and health plans to meet pre-determined participant enrollment objectives.
2. Provides exercise physiologist marketing opportunities.

C. EDUCATION
1. Delivers Ornish nutrition guidelines lectures per protocol.
2. Delivers lectures on other nutrition related topics to participants as needed.
3. Provides outreach to hospital, medical, or lay communities as needed.
4. Provides educational in-services as necessary.
5. Serves as a role model for all elements of the Program.
D. ADMINISTRATION
1. Supervises and collaborates with the Program Chef/Caterer to provide a cycle menu that contains a variety of grains, whole foods and nutritionally balance. Ensures food presentation, palatability and consistency with Program guidelines are optimal, including potlucks and cooking demonstrations.
2. Coordinates and supervises meal services, evaluates meal service and food quality, and reports outcomes as required.
3. Plans menus and provides recipes for all meals and special events.

1. Organize time effectively to complete patient care duties, documentation, projects and other assigned duties within the assigned time frames.

C. Other Responsibilities
1. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area.
2. Maintain equipment in working order, including refilling and replacing supplies as needed.
3. Report any damaged or missing equipment and report to the supervisor or designee and removes damaged equipment from service.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Registered Dietitian/Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/LDN) with appropriate state's licensure.
Certification in BLS or CPR is required.
Formal training/certification in motivational interviewing/coach preferred.
Experience in counseling individuals in making lifestyle changes supportive of comprehensive dietary changes.
Experience in meal preparation and shopping prescribed by the Program's nutrition guidelines.
Experience using nutrition analysis software.
Knowledgeable about research and the role of dietary factors in heart disease, and exhibits an ability to explain these concepts clearly to a lay audience.
COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Skill in making appropriate and effective decisions based on needs of the patient, priorities of the department, and the Medical Center and Department Policies and Procedures.
Ability to work as a member of a team, including sharing knowledge, giving/receiving feedback, taking initiative to assist others, problem solving, providing an atmosphere conducive to learning.
Ability to assign and supervise the performance of appropriate tasks within the technical and legal capabilities of support personnel.
Familiarity with basic computer functions such as word processing and basic on-line mail systems.
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
Excellent leadership and adult education skills.
Sensitivity to patient needs.
Serve as a role model by embodying the principles and practices being taught.
